This handmade wine bottle shaped wooden sign was a blast to make. We spent a ton of time trying to find and mix the perfect colors to make the sign look like a bottle of fine red wine. We think it is spot on!! The saying makes for a fantastic gift for any great friend for any occasion, especially for a housewarming!

"Age appears best in these things: old wood to burn, old wine to drink & old friends to trust". Doesn't it though?

Take a look through the pictures and get a feel for how we made this wine bottle shaped wood sign. It actually started as a wooden paddle, which we cut down to better proportions for a wine bottle. We then added a layer of Charred Wood Accelerator to give the wood an aged and charred look. It was our first time using this product and it made the wood look like it had been burned. We then sanded the wood and charr again, bringing back most of the natural look and grain of the wood. Leaving behind just a hint of the charred look that matches the grain. It truly looks like a piece of wood that was pulled out of some old barn somewhere and repurposed for this sign. The pictures don't pick up charr very well, so check out the video to see the effect. We then mixed the acrylic paint, thinned it a bit so we could spray it and added it to the wooden sign. Did we mention how long we took to find the perfect colors to mix? About an hour sitting in Michaels acrylic paint isle just to pick the right base colors! We feel it was totally worth it though. It also took another long period of time to design and cut the white permanent vinyl. All the available "templates" for a wine bottle were just way too plain. Take a look at the details like the flourish on the bottom of the white vinyl wine bottle. We double reversed it for a cool effect! We might need to patent that design before Robert Mondavi tries to steal it for one of his new wine bottles! After we applied the white vinyl, we added a layer of matte clear coat to make sure the vinyl never curls up and the sign will last for a lifetime of enjoyment. The entire process took a few days to get all together, but the finished sign is officially one of our favorite signs we have produced so far.

The negative to our process in making and selling this wooden wine bottle shaped sign is that we may never be able to produce one exactly like it again.
